Bhutan

17 May 2010

Bhutan is a small, mountainous country that has limited external contacts in order to preserve its traditional Buddhist culture, but it has more modern elements than I expected.

Below are a few photos of the beautiful valleys, amazing temples and dzongs, friendly people, and a crazy guy dancing on stage at a club in Paro.

Most of the big, crowded festivals for which Bhutan is famous are held in the fall. I was lucky in May to get to see an uncrowded local festival in Ura in central Bhutan.
